Tournament Brackets

Tournament Format for All Leagues
All Grayson Athletic Association Rec Basketball Leagues have a post-season tournament. The tournament will be a single elimination tournament.  The bracket used is a standard single elimination bracket similar to used in the NCAA Tournament Regionals where the highest seed plays the lowest seed, and so on. In leagues with fewer than 16 teams, first round byes are awarded to the highest seeded teams.

Seeding
Tournament opponents will be determined by team seeding. Teams seed are determined in a way that acknowledges the winning percentage, head to head competition, and strength of schedule. No consideration given to points scored, margin of victory, etc.   Due to the number of teams in a league, there may be two teams tied at the end of the regular season that did not play each other, or played each other twice and split the games evenly. Seeding in these situations is accounted for with a strength of schedule formula known as the Performance Ranking (abbreviated PR.)

Tournament Scheduling
Tournament play will begin immediately after the conclusion of the regular season. Due to the need to begin and end the tournament in one calendar week, all players should be prepared to have a game every day of the week with the first game being played on Sunday.

Home Team
The home team in each tournament game is always the higher seeded team. In other words, if seed #1 plays seed #8, then seed #1 is the home team and seed #8 is the visitor. If you have any questions regarding which team is home, please contact your League Commissioner.

Award Presentations
At each tournament game prior to the Championship Game, the League Commissioner conduct an award presentation providing the league participation medals to the losing team. At the Championship Game, the Director of Basketball and the League Commissioner make the presentation of the League Champion and League Finalist trophies.
